Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to Archbishop Sumner Primary School. We are a thriving one-form entry church school rooted in Christian values and at the heart of a richly diverse community.

“Love always protects, always trusts, always perseveres, always hopes.”

1 Corinthians 13:7

Guided by our Christian vision and our core Gospel values of love, hope, integrity and respect, we believe that every child is made in the image of God and uniquely gifted. This belief underpins our commitment to ensuring that every child thrives – academically, spiritually and personally.

I am proud that ABS is a school where children are known and valued as individuals. Their needs are swiftly identified and supported. As a result, children with Special Educational Needs thrive and make good progress alongside their peers and are fully included in the life of the school. Families describe us as a second home and visitors speak warmly of the sense of welcome and belonging they experience. We work in close partnerships with parents and have high expectations both for our pupils’ achievement and for the care and service we provide to our community.

Our exciting curriculum is threaded with opportunities for children to thrive.  We are proud of the strength and breadth of our curriculum which equips pupils with academic achievement alongside creativity and personal development. Science, history and geography inspire curiosity and wonder about the world, developing scholarly values.  Music remains a distinctive and celebrated part of our school life: every child has the opportunity to learn an instrument, perform and sing together. Our bespoke arts curriculum encourages children to explore their ideas, take creative risks and grow as young artists. We value religious education: children reflect deeply, ask meaningful questions and engage thoughtfully and respectfully with different beliefs.

At ABS, we have invested in valued partnerships through which a wide range of enrichment opportunities ensure that children truly experience life in all its fullness.

Within our walls, we lead with love: protecting, trusting, persevering and hoping as we seek to inspire and equip every child to fulfil their enormous potential.

We look forward to welcoming you into our school family.
